“Piecing it Together”
The Proud Grandmas are a collaborative duo of quilters Miki Mann and Claudette Coté. In the process of putting together these placemat-sized quilts representing 15 different flags within the LGBTQ2S+ community, they learned about the different meanings of the colours and the history of flag design development. The flags hung in the “Pride” art exhibition at the Salmon Arm Art Gallery as part of Salmon Arm’s first LGBTQ2S+ arts and awareness festival in October, 2020.
“It is a privilege to have people of different genders and sexualities in my family, because I’ve learned, and I’ve been exposed to all this love and diversity.” - Claudette Coté
“This exhibition gave me the opportunity to show my respect and support for my friends and loved ones who are part of the community” - Miki Mann
